Wilson Defyer: which one should you choose?
The Defyer is Wilson's newest line, built around spin and comfort. It slots between the Clash (pure comfort) and the Blade (pure control): a frame that grabs the ball, gives easy topspin and a soft feel without being mushy. The catch is that it comes in four flavours — 100, 100L, 98 Pro and 100UL — and it's easy to get lost. This guide settles it.
Wilson Defyer 100 — the all-rounder (start here)
This is the reference model, the one most players should look at first. 300 g, a 100 in² head and an open 16×19 pattern: it gives easy spin while keeping enough control to drive through the ball. The best balance of power, spin and forgiveness in the range.

- Best for: improving to advanced players (roughly UTR 3+) who play with spin and want a frame that forgives without going soft.
Wilson Defyer 100L — the lighter version
Same head and pattern as the 100, but 15 g lighter (285 g) with a slightly more head-heavy balance to make up for the lost mass. The result: more manoeuvrable, easier to swing late in a match, a touch less stable against big incoming pace. This is the accessible Defyer.

- Best for: beginners and improvers, lighter builds, or anyone who finds the 100 a bit heavy and wants more manoeuvrability.
Wilson Defyer 98 Pro — the control version
The player's version: a smaller 98 in² head, a tighter 16×20 pattern and 305 g for maximum precision and control. It asks for clean technique and decent racket-head speed, but rewards you with a level of precision the 100 models can't match.

- Best for: advanced players who prize control and feel and already have a well-grooved swing.
Wilson Defyer 100UL — the ultralight for starting out
The lightest in the range (270 g), made for genuine beginners and recreational players who want maximum ease and manoeuvrability. Less control and stability than the others, but instant handling and zero fatigue.

- Best for: complete beginners, players returning to tennis, or recreational players who want a light, easy frame.
Defyer 100 or 100L: which one?
This is the most common hesitation, and it comes down to one thing: weight. Both share the same 100 in² head and 16×19 pattern, so they play with the same character. The difference is 15 g.
- Defyer 100 (300 g) — if you already have a solid level and a full swing, and you want stability against fast balls.
- Defyer 100L (285 g) — if you're starting out or improving, are a lighter build, or you value manoeuvrability and comfort late in a match.
If you're on the fence and your level is climbing, take the 100: you adapt to a bit of weight, the other way round is more frustrating.
